THE KING REIGNS SUPREME!
Elvis becomes the most successful solo artist in UK
chart history with record-breaking 13th No1 album!
Elvis Presley has become the most successful solo artist of all time in the UK.
The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s latest album The Wonder Of You shot straight to the top of the official Album Charts tonight [Friday, 28.10].
That gave Elvis a 13th UK No.1 album – which sees him, officially, become the single most successful solo artist in UK chart history.
This latest chart-topper takes him out on his own, ahead of Madonna (12 No1s). The rest of the all-time Top Five is made up of David Bowie (11): Robbie Williams (11) and Michael Jackson (10).
The amazing achievement comes almost 40 years since Elvis’ death, and proves the icon’s popularity with the UK public endures.
The Wonder Of You Executive producer Priscilla Presley said,“This achievement is something I know Elvis would have been so thankful for. I am incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and so grateful to the UK fans who have kept his legacy alive with all of their support. I hope they continue to listen and love his music as much as I do.”
The Wonder Of You beat off latter day artists including Michael Bublé and Lady Gaga to take the No1 spot after a hugely exciting chart battle.
In total, it sold 63,505 copies to take the No1 spot
The Wonder Of You is the follow-up to If I Can Dream, which was released in autumn 2015 and was also a chart-topper. To date, If I Can Dream has sold more than one million copies in the UK alone, and was the second biggest new release of last year, behind only Adele.
The Wonder Of You, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, presents Elvis’ unmistakable voice and original performances augmented with a new orchestral accompaniment. Featuring beloved classics along with several surprises, standout tracks include a sultry new version of A Big Hunk O’ Love, the glorious Amazing Grace, and a stunning new take on classic Always On My Mind.
Elvis Presley has achieved more than one billion record sales worldwide to date.
